As a lifelong learner, I am inspired by the young humans I teach, and continue to learn how to best serve their educational needs daily. I obtained my Multiple Subjects credential from the CalState Teach program, and I earned my Masters of Education from University of California, Los Angeles. With over a decade of experience in education, I have been privileged to work with over 600 diverse students, from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and a variety of abilities and skill-sets.
I have a firm belief that each and every student is an integral member of the learning community, and I am eager to escort every scholar, as they begin the newest chapter of their educational journey in my classroom. I believe every student has the ability to learn, however, it is my job to provide supports to make content accessible and relevant to them. Fostering a love for the pursuit of knowledge is my primary focus, and establishing a vibrant, rigorous and nurturing learning environment is my responsibility.
I am a proud graduate of Gretchen Whitney High School and alumna of California State University Long Beach (GO BEACH!), where I double majored in Political Science and Africana Studies. Although I took a career detour after graduating college, all roads led me straight back to true passion: education. My mother, a retired elementary school teacher, was a passionate educator for over 40 years. I like to say that her passing her passion for teaching to me was both a blessing and a curse. In spite of my attempts to run from my calling, I wholeheartedly believe that I was always destined to become a teacher, it is literally in my DNA.
I stand on the foundation that ALL STUDENTS are capable, AND REGARDLESS of culture, socioeconomic status or gender, every child deserves a high quality education.
I am extremely passionate about helping students foster their own love for education, and I am committed to helping each student discover what it means to be their best self.
In addition to teaching, I am in my second term as Vice-President of Elementary for ABCFT Local 2317, ABCUSD Black Student Alliance Member, TIP Teacher Leader, E.V.E. Teacher Support Coach, National Trainer Candidate for the American Federation of Teachers, and Lead Teacher Ambassador for Snorkl. Through my Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., and advocacy work through California Federation of Teachers PK-12 Education Issues Committee, I am committed to ensure EVERY child receives a quality education as a basic fundamental human right.
Outside of the academic arena, I am a happy wife and a proud mother of a Senior son and a 1st grade girl.I come from a close-knit, southern-bred family, and if I'm not with my family, I am usually spending time with my friends, who over many years, have become my second family. I thoroughly enjoy shopping, traveling, cooking, attending concerts, and attending book club with my girlfriends. Although I am not very adventurous, I am always willing to step outside of my comfort zone, and I carry over this same willingness, and growth mindset in my classroom!
