Update July 20, 2026:
As we begin returning to our campuses, reviewing class rosters, and participating in professional development, we wanted to share an update on the latest bargaining efforts.
On Monday, the ABCE Bargaining Team met with the District Bargaining Team with the goal of reaching a tentative agreement regarding TSIA funding. These are state-allocated dollars designated for employee salaries. However, as with many state funding initiatives, the allocation comes with specific requirements. Under the current legislation, these funds may only be used to increase salaries for teachers with 10 or more years of experience. The State of Florida defines "teacher" in Florida Statute 1012.01(2)(a), which limits eligibility to instructional personnel assigned to student rosters.
We recognize that this statutory definition excludes many valued educators, including our guidance counselors, interventionists, and media center specialists. ABCE made it clear to the district that we will continue bringing forward additional compensation proposals aimed at securing meaningful salary increases for employees who are not eligible for TSIA funding under the state statute.
We also introduced an important proposal designed to better protect educators from harmful social media attacks. Specifically, our proposal addresses "flaming," which occurs when individuals use social media to make false allegations, harass, or threaten school employees. We believe educators deserve protections from this type of conduct, and we are currently awaiting the district's response to our proposed contract language.
Our next bargaining session is scheduled for August 7 at the Nelson Building, where both teams will exchange additional proposals. We will reconvene on August 10 to discuss those proposals in greater detail.
