Friday 9th January 2026 - School Closed
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your continued support and understanding during this period of adverse weather. The decision to close the school today was based on the adverse weather conditions experienced overnight, which created unsafe travel routes for both young people and staff.
The Met Office yellow weather warning has now been extended until 8:00 PM on Friday evening, and overnight forecasts indicate further challenging conditions. As a result, the school will remain closed on Friday 9th January. Our priority remains the safety of our school community and ensuring continuity of learning.
Online learning opportunities will continue to be available, and we encourage young people to engage with these throughout the day.
A thaw is predicted over the weekend, and we anticipate the school will open as normal at 8:30 AM on Monday morning. However, as always, if circumstances change, we will be in contact with you immediately.
Thank you once again for your patience and support. We wish you and your family a safe and restful weekend.
Kind regards,
Joanne Hesford

Our priority is the safety of our school community and ensuring continuity of learning. Online learning will be available, and we encourage all young people to engage with these opportunities throughout the day.
We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide regular updates. Thank you for your understanding and support during these adverse conditions.

Wednesday 7th January 2026 - School Closure Online Learning Arrangements
Dear Parents and Carers,
Due to ongoing adverse weather conditions, Oldmachar Academy will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday 7 January 2026. The safety of our pupils and staff continues to be our priority.
To ensure continuity of learning, online learning will continue during the closure. Teachers will provide learning materials and activities through our agreed digital platforms. We kindly ask families to encourage young people to access these opportunities and engage with their learning as much as possible.
We will continue to review the situation and provide regular updates through email, the school website, and social media. Please check these channels for the latest information.
Thank you for your support and understanding during this period.
Yours sincerely

Tuesday 6th January 2026 - School Closure
Dear Families
Thank you for your patience and understanding, and apologies for any inconvenience caused by the initial delayed opening and the subsequent decision to close to pupils and staff today. Please be assured that all decisions are made with the safety of our school community as the highest priority.
I am writing to share an update on tomorrow. I can confirm that Oldmachar Academy will be closed on Tuesday 6 January 2026 to both pupils and staff. The adverse weather conditions do not allow safe travel for all young people and staff. As a result, we are likely to face significant staffing issues. Young people can access learning as they did so today, via google classroom. Principal Teachers (Faculties) will work with their teams to lead and support staff with this provision as appropriate.
Falcon Coaches have already contacted today stating that school transport is cancelled on Tuesday 6 January for the few young people who are entitled to this service.
Thank you again for your support and understanding. Please continue to make safe decisions based on your local conditions.
Yours sincerely
