Course Content:
During S3 Home Economics you will continue to develop skills, knowledge and understanding building on what you have learnt in S1 and S2.
The course will continue to cover some of the following areas:
Developing Healthy Choices
Food Experience
Keeping Safe and Hygienic
Textiles Technology
The Journey of Food
Nutritional Needs
There will be an emphasis on developing cookery skills and gaining an understanding of the importance of safety and hygiene in the storage, preparation and cooking of foods. Learners will follow recipes, plan and produce dishes and develop their planning, organisational and time management skills. They will also have the opportunity to complete the REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate which is highly useful for jobs in all areas of the food industry.
Learners should note, however, that there is also regular written work within the course as well as regular homework.
Assessment:
Pupils will be assessed throughout the course with regular written homework tasks, practical tasks in school and short answer response questions in class tests.
