"Young people become more confident and enthusiastic when they see that their views are being taken seriously and acted upon."
Education Scotland (2018) How good is OUR school? A resource to support learner participation in self-evaluation and school improvement
Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states that children have the right to have their opinions considered when adults are making decisions about things that affect them. At Hanover Street School, we believe all pupils should have a voice and be involved in improving our school.
Each year, our classes get the opportunity to form a Class Committee to take responsibility for developing something within the school.
This year, our Class Committees are:
P2 and P6/7
Numeracy
P2/3 and P4
Our Community
P3 and P5
Literacy
P5/6
Health and Wellbeing
P7
Digital Technologies
In Nursery, pupils get the opportunity to participate in "Little People, Big Voices" groups where they can share their thoughts about aspects of nursery life and how we can improve.
Following on from this, our Primary 1s get the opportunity to share their ideas and opinions and have them listened to in a variety of ways.
These regular opportunities to share their ideas and opinions will equip them with the skills needed to create a class committee in Primary 2.
