The individual school's senior leadership team has responsibility for delivery of enhanced provision as learners are on the school's role and a member of their community. Consistency across and between settings is supported by the Principal Teacher - Child's Planning and Outreach. In addition, the Educational Psychology Service support schools to plan for learners.

Why ‘Enhanced Provision’?

The evidence gathered as part of the National Review of Additional Support for Learning (Morgan, 2020) concluded that enhanced provision provides additional opportunities for needs-led and learner centred approaches. These are rooted in discussions held amongst the Team Around the Child, which inform planning and delivery of support. For example, this will include exploring opportunities for integration with peers and participation in activities. Flexibility in curriculum delivery to develop core skills in Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing is encouraged.

Who will support children/young people in enhanced provision?

Like all children/young people, learners will build relationships with adults that know them well. This may include the school’s Head Teacher, Depute Head Teachers, Class/Subject Teachers, Pupil Support Assistants and – in secondary – Principal Teachers of Guidance/Pupil Support. Children/Young people attending enhanced provision will be known to a teacher and pupil support assistant as part of a smaller group of seven learners.

In addition, professionals who area already known to the Team Around the Child (from Education Services, Health, Social Work and/or 3rd sector) will continue to support the child/young person as long as the assessment of wellbeing deems their involvement to be beneficial.

How is an offer of enhanced provision identified?

Aberdeen City Council is committed to the presumption of mainstreaming as outlined in the Standards in Scotland’s Schools etc. Act 2000.

The Child’s Planning Support request for assistance process is used to identify learners for whom this approach may be of benefit. The Child's Plan is used by the Team Around the Child to outline the nature of the child's strengths, needs and the multi-agency interventions employed to meet them. The multi-agency forum reviews the information provided by the Team Around the Child to endorse planning and intervention and/or to offer further support, which could include enhanced provision.
