Course Overview
The Purpose of this course is to develop knowledge and understanding of political, social and international issues and to promote the development of the critical skills of analysis, synthesis, evaluating and decision making.
The course comprises 3 mandatory courses:
Democracy in Scotland and the U.K The U.K. Constitutional arrangement including the role of the Scottish Parliament and other devolved bodies, the study of political institutions and how they operate, voting systems factors which influence and voting behaviour and the ways in which people are informed about and participate in the political process.
Social Issues in the U.K. The nature of social inequality ,causes of inequality, the impact of inequality and the attempts to tackle inequality
International Issues- The Lack of Development in Africa Looking at Social Economic and political issues that cause problems and the attempts to solve these

Assessment Methods
The course is externally assessed. Pupils must complete an Assignment report and the final exam. Higher courses are graded A-D.
Entry Requirements
While entry is at the discretion of the department, students would normally be expected to have attained:
Grade A-C at National 5 Modern Studies or another Social Subject
