Course Overview
The S2 History course is divided into three units, covering a wide variety of interesting topics. The course is designed to build upon the skills and History topics taught in S1, as well as lay the foundations for progression into National 4 and 5 by introducing key skills such as explaining, analysing, evaluating and source handling techniques. By looking at a wide variety of topics pupils have the opportunity to learn about the impact that different people and events had on the past and how they have shaped lives today. The course consists of the following units:
Unit 1: Changing Times: People Who Shaped Scotland.
Big Changes: The Renaissance and Reformation.
The Demise of Mary Queen of Scots.
James VI & I: Gunpowder, Treason and Plot.
Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite Rebellion.
Unit 2: Slavery: A Fight for Freedom.
Britain and its Involvement in the Slave Trade.Â
Unit 2: 20th Century History: The Nazis and World War 2.
The Rise of Hitler and the Nazis
Key Events of the Second World War.
The Holocaust.
