12/15/2017: Summative Summary Paragraph
Write two paragraphs summarizing the two article on locker elves. Each paragraph should contain a summary of the article and two direct quotes. One quote needs to use parenthetical citations and one quote needs to be introduced. Writing will be assessed in three parts: summarizing, direct introduced quotes, and parenthetical citations. Due same day: 12/15/2017

Working with a partner, have one person read Article 2 aloud to the other person. Then wait for ten seconds. The listener should then explain out loud what the article was about. Wait ten more seconds and then both of you should write the summary down. Remember your audience. Summarize the material in words your audience will understand. Check your summary and the original. Put the two pages side by side. Do they sound the same? If they do, you may be in danger of plagiarizing.

12/5/2017: Direct and Indirect Quote
We read two brief articles about Locker Elves and chose 3 quotes from each. We wrote 1 direct quote and 2 indirect quotes using parenthetical citations
Article 1: This is from a web article called “Locker Elves” written by Willow Wander and posted on the website Mysteries and Discoveries. parenthetical citation would be (Wander).
- According to the article "Locker Elves" by Wander's, "Locker elves . . . are small creatures that dwell in small storage spaces."
- "Locker elves were first discovered in 1999 by Eric Vann" (Wander).
- Vann stated, “I am amazed by how much I’ve learned about locker elves – and how much more there is to learn” (Wander).
Article 2: This is from page 45 of a book called All the Elves written by Eric Vann.
- On page 45, from the book "All the Elves" by Eric Vann wrote, "Most locker elves enjoy living in a disorganized locker. These elves are classified as “messy elves” or “mischievous elves.”
- "Tell-tale signs of a locker elf infestation include missing homework assignments ... and damaged books" (Vann 45).
