The community schools model is considered an evidence-based approach to school improvement under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. More than 140 research studies show that the FSCS model improves Educational, behavioral, and social-emotional outcomes for preschool - 12th-grade students and families, especially for families of color and socioeconomically disadvantaged. Within SAFSCS, each school has its own approach to family engagement, expanding and enriching learning, and collaborative leadership, but there are some common strategies that will be used across all schools in the Southeast Alaska model, and each school will share the lessons learned across the region.
