Any Skyline choir student may audition for Skyline Blues as long as you are signed up for all three trimesters of your choir. We're so excited to hear and see you perform for us!
On audition day, you will report to the choir room (C104 on the first floor). Please be early as there will be an audition sheet and a commitment contract to sign in order to be considered for the group. A member will call you into the choir room so that you may perform your solo audition.
This solo must be in an appropriate genre for a Blues piece (pop, R&B, alternative, classic rock, etc.). You will perform it in front of returning Blues members, Mrs. Cie, and the Skyline Blues co-director. It is understood that you may be nervous during your solo, and that's okay! Sheet music is not needed. Treble voices, we want to hear songs that show off both your chest and head voice. If you are a vocal percussionist, please also prepare a beatboxing solo that will be performed right after you sing the solo. We want to hear varying beats, fills, and techniques!
Along with performing a solo, you will be asked a few questions about why you want to join, what you're expecting, and what you can offer to the group (i.e. vocal percussion).
Once solo auditions are complete, auditionees will also be asked to perform pieces of this year's Blues music and choreography in a small group. You will be given 15-20 minutes to sight-read and prepare the music assisted by the returning members of Skyline Blues. Then, you will learn a short piece of choreography. After the choreography lesson, each group will perform the piece of music and the choreography for Mrs. Cie and the returning members of Blues. This allows us to gauge your comfort level in a group setting, as well as your ability to blend and balance with other people. After group auditions are complete, you have finished auditioning for Skyline Blues!
Blues members are NOT allowed to talk about the selection process, so please do not ask them!
Any questions should be directed to Mrs. Cie ONLY. (ciechanl@aaps.k12.mi.us)
Contracts must be signed and delivered to Mrs. Cie by the deadline, or you will not be considered.
Based on your performance in the solo audition, interview, and group performance, you will be contacted directly by Mrs. Cie about whether you have been admitted to the group or not, one or two days after auditions. Audition results may also be posted on the Skyline Choir website.
Starting the first week of school, rehearsals will take place for approximately two hours, two days a week.*
Mondays: 6:00pm-8:00pm
Thursdays: 3:30pm-5:30pm
*Rehearsals will be added and lengthened before competitions and performances
