Shozo Shinamoto Mine

Name of Artist: Shozo Shinamoto
Dates of Artist’s Life: 1928-2013
Shimamoto was a student of Yoshihara’s beginning when he was nineteen, in 1947.In 1950, he graduated from the School of Humanities, Kwansei Gakuin University. He was a Japanese artist. Founded the Gutai/future leader. Shimamoto was also the first artist to have a solo exhibition at the Gutai Pincotheca, the Gutai gallery and center in Osaka.

He uses a splatter technique. Shimamoto's practice often involved the smashing/ throwing of vases and bottles filled with paint. Sometimes he slashed the canvas, also referred to as action painting. He mainly focused on abstract painting. He used really vibrant colors to draw attention.
3. Philosophy: (5 sentences. What were the major ideas behind this artist’s work? Where they personal, political, social, etc. What were they trying to “say” with their work?)
Shimamoto wanted to embody freedom in his work. Shimamoto's art is essentially the embodiment of the spirit of Gutai. Which was a movement that drew international attention to contemporary Japanese art. It captures the very essence of 'the trace of action. ' He wanted to create performance art for everyone to enjoy.
4. Influences: (5 sentences. How has the artist influenced you in your work or who were they influenced by?)
He influenced me to be more creative.Also he influenced me to not be a perfectionist, since he never knew how his art would come out. He influenced me to use brighter colors and layers. To go with the flow of art and see where it takes me. Try new mediums and ways to produce art.

I created my piece on a program called procreate. I used many different brushes and experimented with colors. I tried to embody Shinamoto by just going with the flow. In the end, I created a very vibrant and intricate piece. I used red to symbolize power and tried to recreate his splatter technique.
