Chala Merga Abdissa received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and the M.Tech. degree in Microelectronic Engineering from Addis Ababa University, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in 2009 and 2011, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Electronics Engineering from Jeonbuk National University, Jeonju, Republic of Korea, in 2018. He was a postdoctoral research fellow of rehabilitation robotics  at Asan Medical Center, Seoul Korea during Sept. 2018- Dec. 2020. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Addis Ababa University. His main research interests include robotics, machine learning and control systems.

He serves as associate editor for the IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering (T-ASE). He was an adjunct faculty with the Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation (PAUSTI) which is hosted at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Nairobi, Kenya.  He is currently an adjunct Instructor with Carnegie Mellon University Africa.
