If you're flying: book your flight into IND
IND is the Indianapolis International Airport, and the primary airport serving downtown.
The airport is a 20 minute drive from the IUI campus.
Indiana University, Indianapolis, is located downtown near the White River. Some downtown hotels like the JW Marriott use the Go Express Travel shuttle, with service departing every 30 minutes.
Indianapolis is a car town. From the Indianapolis 500 racetrack to the pot-hole dodging of daily commutes, Indy residents drive. Three major interstates converge in Indy, feeding into I-465, which circles the metropolitan area. If you like to drive fast in bumper-to-bumper traffic on eight-to-ten-lane highways, you're in for a treat.
The IU Indianapolis Campus and Nearby Hotels/Restaurants Are Walkable
If you take a shuttle or Uber from the airport to a downtown hotel near campus, the area is walkable with access to restaurants and events via short Ubers. The IndyGo Red Line bus service runs from restaurants and bars downtown to the trendy Broad Ripple area and has stops near Butler University.
If you want freedom to roam, a rental car will give you access to the metro area. There are parks and reservoirs to the east and west of the city, a world class zoo, museums, tours of the Indy 500 racetrack, and more.
