Teachers at Southern High School collaborate with our Signature Program to bring real-world Design Thinking practices into all of their content areas to create more meaningful lessons and experiences.

It's easier to be innovative in a unique and creative space. We are passionate about outdoor education and changing the scenery to improve student wellness and academic performance. Teachers utilize our outdoor classroom located in the front courtyard.

Students participate in monthly design challenges in their advisory class. It encourages our school to brainstorm and collaborate to deliver creative solutions.
In the picture, students created their own recipe, so we purchased the materials to test it out.
We strive to have every Southern High School student registered on the AACPS Service Learning Portal and to complete at least one project each year.

We team up with other school departments and tour local colleges and businesses to expose students to possible options after high school.
Community business and industry members volunteer their time to come interview all juniors to prepare them for their upcoming college or career interviews.
Second Friday of the month, we host a different professional to come talk to students about their career. It's called "Donuts with Design Thinkers" and yes, donuts are included!
School wide events to show students all that is out there for them in terms of college and career.
