Please Read! Important information about the instrumental music program.
Mr. Ferenz has been an instrumental music director since 2014. He started playing trumpet in the 6th grade, and went on to major in music education at Shepherd University. Mr. Ferenz has worked with bands, orchestras, and jazz ensembles at various age levels throughout his career.
When he isn't teaching music, you will most likely find Mr. Ferenz spending time with Mrs. Ferenz and Baby Finley.
3rd Graders may only choose an Orchestra instrument.
4th and 5th Graders may choose an Orchestra OR Band instrument.
Orchestra instruments are like shoes, you need the correct size! Younger students tend to use smaller instruments.
***4th and 5th Grade Only***
Preferred methods of obtaining an instrument:
Rent/Buy from a Local Music Store (most preferred method)
We are lucky to have many vendors in Anne Arundel County who can supply you with an instrument and all necessary accessories! Click the button below for more information about rental or purchase costs from each music store. If you have a question about purchasing an appropriate instrument, please contact Mr. Ferenz (contact information at the bottom of this page). Renting is the preferred option for Strings students as the insruments grow with them and for any student who is not certain that they will want to continue with their chosen instrument for more than one year.
Buying on Amazon/Online
This can be a significantly less expensive option but the instruments are also lesser in quality. They do not always work as well, stay in tune as well, and last as long as brand name instruments. Repair stores typically cannot repair these instruments when they break because the cost to repair exceeds the cost of the overall instrument. There is risk in using these instruments, but also several students do this and never have any major issues.
Borrow a school owned instrument (last resort)
A limited supply of school owed instruments are available from the school at no cost for families who are financially unable to provide their own. School instruments are assigned at teacher discression on a first-come basis when students are registered for band/strings. If you are unable to supply your own instrument and must request a school instrument, please choose this option when you register!
Requested School Instruments will be assigned and distributed after the first two music lessons. Parents will be notified if their requested instrument is unavailable.
A parent/guardian must fill out the registration form at the top of this page. You may want to have your child present as you go through it. Make sure you go all the way through and click SUBMIT at the very end.
You can email Mr. Ferenz at gferenz@aacps.org or text him at (601) 207-4477. Mr. Ferenz teaches at two schools, so please identify who your child is and which school they attend.
