While ALL students at Corkran learn through AVID strategies, some students may choose to apply for and join the AVID Elective Class Cohort.
AVID is a college preparatory elective for students in the “academic middle”. Students who choose to apply for AVID, typically have some of the following characteristics:
Desire to attend college
Desire to explore colleges and careers
Desire to get good grades and maintain a good GPA
Desire to be a leader and develop relational capacity skills
Desire to learn strategies to help them be academically successful ( note taking, study, test taking, etc)
Benefits to Students in the AVID Elective class :
Participate in weekly tutorials (peer led study sessions) for all classes
College tutors who help and tutor during AVID class
Being a part of a group of students who share the same goals
A teacher who acts as an advocate and liaison between home and school
Field trips to college campuses and college fairs
Guest speakers (college and career)
Interested in being a part of the AVID Elective?
APPLY to the AVID program by completing the application found here.. Turn it into the school counselor or main office.
The AVID Coordinator will contact you for an interview.
Data will be collected including teacher recommendations, grades, attendance and behavior records
The AVID Site team will determine eligibility and acceptance into the program
