Most of your research in school will be done using MackinVia to access our databases. Clicking the picture to the right will take your there.
*We will be using MackinVia for our in-class research. You may need to open MackinVia in Classlink first in order to access MackinVia from here. Once there, click GROUPS, then 2023-2024 National History Day Databases.
These databases are great for student research as they contain a variety of source types (primary and secondary) like text, audio, video, and images.
After opening Mackinvia, be sure to click on Groups, and 2023-24 National History Day Databases. Read the titles and descriptions of the Databases to ensure you are in those that are most appropriate for you and your topic: (Science, Word History, American History, etc.)
Research and Note Taking should take up the majority of your time while working through our History Day project.
Click on the picture to the right to create a slide deck where your notes will be saved during your research process.
It is very important that for every source you use that, you document where you found it so that you are able to get back to that site in the future.
What Are Notes?
-Bulleted lists of facts
-Summaries of text you read
-In your own words
Notes are not:
-Copied and pasted text from a source to your notecards.
*Wikipedia as a site cannot be used for research. While it is often helpful, informative, and can lead you to related topics to aid in your research, it has been deemed untrustworthy as a source in academic settings.
Summarize what you have learned from each source before moving on to the next one. These summaries will later become your annotations for your Annotated Bibliographies.
As you research, record the information related to Sourcing like the URL, Author/editor, Title, and the MLA Citation which is what will need to be recorded in your Annotated Bibliography later.
*Look for the "CITE"buttons in the Databases. All the databases allow you to get the citation information with relative ease.
When you click the Cite button, you should get something that looks like the picture below. It will be necessary for you to record the Citation for every source you used in your research to create an Annotated Bibliography later.
