Each year, National History Day® frames students’ research within a historical theme. The theme is chosen for broad application to world, national, or state history and its relevance to ancient history or to the more recent past. The 2023-2024 theme is Turning Points in History.
Over the course of several class periods, over several weeks, students will work on Researching, Note Taking, and Product Creation (among other skills and processes) for a National History Day project of their choosing from the following categories: Essay, Performance, Documentary, Website, or Display.
Additionally, time towards this goal will need to take place outside of the classroom.
In order to monitor and ensure students are continually making forward progress towards completing this project,
smaller grades on individual components of the project will be collected and scored.
The National History Day (NHD) project is a required research experience for all 8th graders in Anne Arundel County. This project serves as both a learning experience as well as counting as your 2nd Marking Period Quarterly which is weighted as 10% of your 2nd MP grade. As such, we ask that your parent or guardian sign, complete, and submit the attached acknowledgement form indicating they are aware of the NHD project and its inherent importance of completion for your grade.
