The following Directed Ensembles require students to AUDITION.
Auditions will be held at Studio 39 during Apex+ (3:45pm - 5:00pm) on August 27, 28 and 29. Students may be asked to come on one, two, or three days.

Fall, Winter, and Spring Trimesters
Auditions for the 2024-2025 season have already been held.
This band of Apex Arts musicians selected by audition will use modern commercial music to strengthen individual technique and musicianship in a collaborative ensemble.
The goal of the project is preparing for traditional live performances.
The band will include drums, bass, keys, guitar, brass/woodwinds, and vocalists.
Musicians will play music from the last several decades including but not limited to rock, blues, funk, pop, soul, ska, and punk. This ensemble provides both applied and collaborative experiences designed to cultivate the skills, motivation, and personal responsibility needed to succeed in a modern band.
Apex Commercial Band is open to students in grades 9-12. You will meet twice a week during Apex+ for rehearsals. This is required for the fall, winter, and spring trimesters.
Apex Commercial Band will represent the Apex Arts Magnet and AACPS throughout our community over the course of the year.

Auditions for the 2024-2025 season have already been held.
In its inaugural year, Rising Stars Vocal Company hopes to perform at Fall Festival, Winter Works, Spring Showcase/Annapolis Arts Week, and events and venues in the community.
The ensemble will sing a wide variety of genres including pop, rock, folk, a cappella, musical theater, holiday, classical madrigals, and more. Students will learn healthy vocal technique, which can be applied to any genre of music. They will explore genre awareness, physicality for singing, audience interaction, and how to take the stage with confidence.
Vocal artists will collaborate with each other and with venues to create setlists for different events under the guidance of Ms. Levine & Ms. Zinski. Students will leave this company equipped with skills in versatility and marketability, prepared to work in the professional industry. Admittance to this ensemble is by audition only.

Rising Stars is also seeking a Stage Manager.
Eligible students must be in grades 10-12, and can be from any prime. Seeking an artist who is interested in organization, stage management, booking venues, coordinating with artists, and more.
Responsibilities: Assist Ms. Zinski and Ms. Levine throughout the school year with Apex Arts projects including Rising Stars Vocal Company, On Broadway, Pop/Rock Vocal Performance, Booked & Busy, and Business for the Arts. Schedule: This position is a strong commitment, but scheduling/availability can be flexible - to be discussed during the interview.
Must bring physical copies of your resume and/or portfolio to the interview. You will be able to sign up for an interview on the same form as the auditions.

Dance Company A is a group determined by audition held in May 2024. There are no further auditions scheduled for the 2024-2025 school year.
If you were selected for Dance Company A, your rehearsal and performance hours are credited toward your Apex+ requirement. You will meet twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays) during Apex+ (approx. 3:20-4:35) for rehearsals. This is required for the fall, winter, and spring trimesters. Company dancers represent the Apex Arts Dance Magnet at AACPS Dance Festivals, Maryland Public High School Dance Showcase, and Regional/National High School Dance Festivals, as well as other performance opportunities throughout the school year. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled outside of the Apex+ structure.
While it is recommended all students engage in Apex+ Projects, your full participation in Dance Company A will cover your Apex+ requirement as outlined below.
As is the Apex Arts policy with all Apex+ classes, final crediting of hours is only done at the conclusion of the classes in June (approximately, pending AACPS final calendar) and students are required to be in regular attendance throughout the class until that date.

Have you ever wanted to play string or woodwind instruments in a rock band? Or turn your violin into a synth? Are you a guitarist that's interested in playing with orchestral musicians? Come join us in Electro-Rock Orchestra!
Electro-Rock is a chance to make music without the limitation of a traditional rock band or traditional orchestra. By introducing pedals, synths, and instrumentals not typically found in a band, we can create music that is unique and borrows from different styles. We take songs from all genres and make it our own.
At the end of Spring Trimester, Electro-Rock be joined by a signed, touring indie rock band to put on a dynamic show that will be filmed professionally.

Instrumental Chamber Music is a course designed to empower students with efficient and effective techniques for practicing and preparing chamber music.
With one person on a part, students will learn leadership and collaboration skills.
Students will select a desired genre of music and performance goals and work to realize their potential through various strategies and tools to maximize their musical progress on a selected piece with a small group of musicians.
