PRIME ARTS AREAS THAT MAY HAVE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Prime Arts Areas that may have specific requirements include Acting, Dance, Design & Production, and Music
All Apex Arts Dance students in Years 1, 2, and 3 are required to engage in dance concerts, with accompanying tech and dress rehearsals twice per year.
Apex Arts Dance students may be cast in Senior Capstone and Junior Choreography projects. If rehearsal time for those opportunities are during the Apex+ timeframe, they may be eligible for credit. This must be confirmed by the Dance Prime Teacher.
Some rehearsal time is graded as part of the daytime curriculum, and some rehearsal time is eligible for Apex+ hours.
Rehearsals and performances taking place during the Apex+ timeframe alone may not be a sufficient means to meeting the Extended Day requirement. Students will have to engage in other elements of the program to earn enough hours.
All Apex Arts Acting students in Years 1, 2, 3 and 4 are required to engage in quarterly acting showcases; and for 23-24 the Spring Mainstage Production at Studio 39, with accompanying tech and dress rehearsals.
All Apex Arts Design & Production (D&P) students in grades 9-11 participate in the D&P Lab Program. This program bridges both the daytime curriculum and Apex+.
Students will accrue a minimum number of hours in mentored instruction by the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
These hours are required in conjunction with those earned in projects assigned by the D&P Prime lead, and Studio 39 Applied Arts Classes and Projects (optional).
D&P student/mentor pairings as well as lab location (Annapolis HS or Studio 39) will be matched and communicated by the D&P Prime Teacher.
In addition to the lab time, the D&P Prime Teacher will also pair students with projects across the year. Hours spent in those projects also go toward the D&P students Apex+ Requirement.
Lab will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the Apex+ timeframe throughout the year. Students can anticipate being scheduled for 2 of 3 days per week, dependent on the projects they are aligned to.
Students should be able to meet 45 hours or more within the D&P Lab program alone, though exploring other offerings is beneficial.
Students should keep an eye on their earned hours throughout the year.
The Design & Production Lab Program is managed by the D&P Prime Teacher. Please visit the Teaching Artists, Production page to learn more about mentors.
As is the Apex Arts policy with all Apex+ classes, final crediting of hours is only done at the conclusion of the class on May 20, 2024 (approximately, pending AACPS final calendar) and students are required to be in regular attendance throughout the class until that date.
All Apex Arts Music students in Years 1, 2, and 3 are required to be enrolled in weekly Applied Music Lessons and to accrue a minimum number of hours (30) in lesson instruction by the end of the 2023-2024 school year. These lessons will be scheduled by the Music Department Chair during the Apex Arts Prime class or within the Apex+ program. Those lessons scheduled in the Apex+ Program will be applied to students’ Apex+ requirement. NOTE: Lessons are not a component of the Apex+ program unless the lesson is scheduled during the Apex+ timeframe.
We anticipate for 2023-2024, as was the case in 2022-2023, the following instrumental areas will have Applied Lessons scheduled during the Apex+ timeframe: Percussion, Tuba, Horn.
Lesson schedules will be available by the first day of school. Musicians who choose to opt in to a Studio 39 Applied Art class or Project (or Virtual lab) are encouraged to do so. Should the scheduled weekly Applied Music Lesson conflict, you will have an option to drop.
Lessons taking place during the Apex+ timeframe alone are not a sufficient means to meeting the Extended Day requirement. Students will have to engage in other elements of the program to earn enough hours.
