APEX+ CREDIT
Students are enrolled in Apex+ as a course. You will see "AA Extended Day" on the report card, transcript, and in Brightspace.
Apex+ classes do not affect a student's grade point average (GPA).
Apex+ courses are credit bearing classes with the same attendance, behavior, and progress expectations as classes held during the regular-day instructional program.
Crediting (hours) is done at the end of each trimester or conclusion of a course. Students will have an Apex+ Progress Report that will be updated at those times. Virtual Lab credit (hours) is applied at the conclusion of Modules 11, 22, and 33.
Students will receive a Satisfactory "S" or Unsatisfactory "U" for their work in their Apex+ classes.
Any student receiving a "S" (Satisfactory) has satisfactorily completed the requirements for the course(s) they are enrolled in, and the hours earned in the course will be calculated into the students' required hours.
Any student receiving a "U" (Unsatisfactory) has not met course requirements, or is not on track to meet the requirement based on their plan .
Students will not receive an "S" (Satisfactory) unless the Applied Arts series or Project is successfully completed. This means that students are committed to participating in all presentations, performances, exhibitions, and portfolio additions as dictated by their course. Failure to do so would result in a "U" (Unsatisfactory), and students would not earn the required hours toward the mandatory 45 hours.
Students will receive an "S" or "U" at the conclusion of each quarter on the report card (with the exception of Quarter 1, where a grade may be blank, only for students who opted out of the Fall Trimester). This S/U grade serves as a progress report. Students can also see more detailed progress reports on their individualized schedule. If a student is not on track to meet their requirement at the time Quarter grades are submitted, they will earn a "U" on the report card. Quarter grades of "U" are not changed/updated if/when a student ultimately meets their requirement, as the final grade will be an "S" if the requirement is met. The quarter grades are an indication of the pathway to completion.
The final grade will be determined based on each individual students Apex+ requirement, schedule, and the projection of a student's capacity to meet their requirement.
The final grade at the end of the year is based on fulfillment of the 45 hour requirement.
Students are required to earn 45 or more hours in Apex+ each year. Hours cannot be carried over from one year to another unless a student enters the Apex Arts Program after the 9th grade year.
For those students entering Apex Arts after the 9th grade year, any hours earned beyond the 45 required are credited toward Year 1.
Students earning 45 - 89 hours will receive .5 Credit on their transcript.
Students earning 90 - 134 hours will receive 1 Credit on their transcript.
Students earning 135-179 hours will receive 1.5 Credits on their transcript.
Students earning 180 hours or more will receive 2 Credits on their transcript. This is the maximum allowed per year for a course.
Credit will be applied at the conclusion of Semester 2.
When a student requests to drop a course, it is best that it is done as soon as possible, particularly in the case of Projects which are collaborative in nature.
If a student must drop a class after it begins, they forfeit the hours from that class or project and will need to make sure to schedule opportunities in other trimesters or in the Virtual Lab to complete the 45 hour requirement.
