Our Team

The staff of Action for Healthy Communities come from a variety of backgrounds in education, not-for-profit, ESL teaching, policy and strategy, and community capacity building. We are geographically located in-community, with offices and staff living in all of the regions we serve.  

Within our Small Centres team, we speak English, French, Spanish, Tagalog, and Cantonese. For any other language, we can connect with our Edmonton team, with more than 35 languages spoken fluently. 

Camrose Team

Leah Stuparyk

Leah Stuparyk lives in Camrose County, Alberta, and works as a "Settlement Worker in Schools" (SWIS) with Action for Healthy Communities. Primarily, her role is as a support to local newcomer families (immigrants and refugees) as they settle into a new life in Canada. 

She is a certified ESL instructor and dedicated community volunteer.

Zoila de Paz-Gendreau

Zoila de Paz-Gendreau works with Action for Healthy Communities as a settlement worker. 

In addition to working with Action for Healthy Communities, Zoila is an English as a Second Language Teacher and an Educational Assistant with Educational Assistant at Elk Island Catholic Schools. 

She is fluent in English and Spanish.

Leduc Team

Jereecah Dela Cruz

Jereecah works as a Settlement Worker in Schools and Community (SWIS&C) with Action for Healthy Communities. She helps to support newcomer students and families (Immigrants and Refugees).

Jereecah also manages all of our Social Media and web presence for the Small Centres, ensuring familes are aware of our programs and able to connect.

She speaks fluent English and Tagalog.

Lakeland Team

Paola Corbi de Shanks

Paola lives in Bonnyville, where she is a dynamic community presence and she serves as a Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS). She describes herself as an an energetic, positive person, who "fills her cup" by helping others. 

Paola speaks fluent English and Spanish.

Manager

Lisa Jane de Gara

With extensive experience in policy development for the Government of Saskatchewan, Government of Alberta, and the Canadian Senate, Lisa Jane de Gara is thrilled to serve Alberta's newcomers settle into their new home. She is based in Edmonton. 

She speaks fluent English and French, and can speak some Spanish.
