Jackrabbits are identifiable by their long legs and ears that stick upright. They use these large ears as a way of distributing heat away from their body to keep cool.
Cottontail rabbits are common and are much smaller than jackrabbits. They have white stubby tails and shorter legs and ears than their counterparts.
Jackrabbits are solely herbivores and eat grasses, cacti, weeds, and other similar plants. They develop severe intestinal issues after not eating for 12 hours. Jackrabbits need around a pound (1/6 - 1/10 of their body weight) per day.
