7 Technology in the workplace

Companies evolve around technology and its influence. In the workplace everything is computerised. Therefore as technology changes, economy and the work market also change. The fact that the pace of change is disorientating and never slackens makes the job situation more uncertain, machines replace people in the workplace, no lifetime jobs exist anymore.

In offices everybody uses computers and e-mail. E-mail has not only replaced the conventional letter, but also the phone. As soon as a new e-mail arrives in your inbox your computer informs you of it, and the person who has sent you that e-mail message can also be informed that it has been successfully sent. Communication is instant across the globe. But on the negative side, employers can also control the use of e-mail and the Internet in order to monitor their employees work. If they want to they are able to know which Internet sites anybody has visited and they can even read their employees e-mail messages. We need to allow and be allowed some privacy, establish new boundaries, we need to redefine these new relationships.
