Mid-term letter to students

Mid Term Letter to Students

As we continue on our Lenten journey and look forward to Spring, I want to remind everyone that Lent is a time for preparation for Easter for Christian believers. The word Lent comes from the Anglo Saxon word lencten, which means "spring. Last week on Tuesday we officially welcomed spring.

As we begin our preparation for the mid-term report cards, I have a few reminders that I would like to share with everyone. To our grade 10 students, the OSSLT is fast approaching and I encourage you to buckle down and take advantage of all the preparations that we are putting in place. Please pay attention to the supports that will be provided to you over the next 4 weeks. For grade 12’s, these mid-term grades are crucial as they will have an impact on your college/university acceptances.

As we continue with our preparation for the resurrection of Christ, the Lenten preparation also applies to our everyday lives i.e. preparation requires that each and every person comes to school ready to learn. Bringing all the tools required for learning like, pens, paper or computers is essential to school success.

Being in full uniform is a key component of being ready to learn. Let me remind everyone, what our basic uniform looks like. Only short sleeved white t-shirts are permitted under the golf shirts. Grey SMK pants and solid black closed-toe shoes are permitted. UGGS and other boots are not permitted. The school is fortunate to have sufficient lockers for everyone. I, therefore, want each of you to place your coats/jackets or sweatshirts into your locker unless you are traveling to and from the portables. During this transition period, you may carry your jacket/coat in the building and wear it at the doors leading outside the main building. Non-uniform jackets, sweaters, and sweatshirts are not permitted in the main building or in classrooms.

Hats and scarves are not to be worn in the building.Rolling of pants violates our school uniform and so nobody should be rolling pants. After this announcement, I ask teachers to make sure that every student is in full uniform.

Demonstrating your preparedness for learning is part of the responsibility and self-regulation that is required of all Ontario high school students. The adults in this building are here to support you, but it is your responsibility to arrive to class on time, in uniform, with the necessary materials, it is your responsibility to complete coursework and to submit assignments on time, and it is your responsibility to demonstrate self-regulation by abiding by the student code of conduct which includes treating yourself and others with respect.

I am appealing to those of you who drive to ensure that you get a parking tag from the office. Student parking is located Northwest of the building. Failure to display a parking tag and to park in the designated space will result in your car being towed or ticketed.

If you choose to go out for lunch, remember that you represent SMK. I urge you to exercise respect for the neighboring stores. Do not litter inside or outside of the school. Make sure that you throw away garbage into the appropriate bins. Let us pick up after ourselves.

Thank you for your continued support.
