The Golden Leaf scholarship for 2-year and 4 -year colleges is now open. All Yancey County students who are heading to community or 4 year college are eligible to apply.

Hispanic College Fund Scholarship
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be of Hispanic heritage
Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students
Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, public or not-for-profit, four-year university, or graduate school, in the US,
US Citizen, Permanent Legal Resident, DACA or Eligible Non-Citizen (as defined by FAFSA)
Submit the FAFSA or state-based financial aid forms (if applicable)

SECU Scholarships
The SECU Foundation established the People Helping People four-year scholarship program to help North Carolina public high school students attend college. Each of the 115 North Carolina Local Education Agencies (LEAs)/School Districts will receive a minimum of one scholarship valued at $10,000 payable at $1,250 for up to eight consecutive semesters for a senior to attend one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System. Application is sent to every student in their email in December.
The R. Flake Shaw Scholarship program awards:
Eight individual, university level scholarships granted for a four-year period at $4,000 per year ($16,000 total per student)
Four individual, community college scholarships granted for a two-year period at $1,000 per year ($2,000 total per student)
Scholarships are open to North Carolina residents who are public high school seniors, who attend the NC School of Science and Mathematics or the UNC School of the Arts High School or who study in a home school registered with the North Carolina Division of Non-Public Education.
Eligibility Requirements

Financial need (unless otherwise noted)
Academic achievement or potential (based on class rank, GPA and SAT scores)
A history of active participation in school activities, community service, extracurricular involvement, and/or work experience
Strong moral character
The NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund Herbert Lehman Scholarship Program awards are $2,000 per year, over four years, for a total of $8,000 - provided funds are available. Scholars must remain in good academic standing and continue to meet the scholarship criteria in order to maintain eligibility.

You’re a high school senior
You’re a legal U.S. resident
You’re younger than 21 years old
You carry a minimum 2.8 GPA
You’re eligible to attend a two- or four-year college or university with a full-time course of study
You’ll disclose other scholarship programs that you’ve applied for
You’ll enroll and attend an accredited institution in the academic year after your selection (verification needed, as scholarship funds are paid directly to the schools)
You have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage
The purpose of the 1000 Dreams Scholarship is to provide one-time educational assistance for high school aged girls or currently enrolled college-aged women in the United States. This can include assistance for needs including but not exclusive to: educational conferences, instructional programs related to creative or artistic pursuits, graduate exam application fees, or textbooks. Needs that are ongoing (e.g., utility bills, food costs) or related to medical care are not covered by this fund.
The students eligible for assistance shall:
be women attending a two-year or four-year college/university; OR current high school students;
demonstrate financial need;
include two letters of recommendation; and
include an essay explaining how the grant would be used.
funds must be used the semester after they are awarded and cannot be deferred.
