2nd Task: "Knowing-Yourself-In-Art"

Your tasks at the MNAC (check the attachment)

When visiting the modernist exhibition at MNAC, you are going to choose TWO paintings.

1. A painting you really like or find interesting.

2. A painting which reflects ONE specific feeling or emotion.

Once you have chosen your paintings…

1. Write down the TITLE, AUTHOR (Who painted it?), YEAR (When?), PLACE (Where?) and the

kind of painting (MATERIALS AND TECHNIQUE).

2. Take a photo of the painting without a flash if the museum authorizes.

3. Write a description of your paintings by answering these questions

a) What can I see?

b) What does it suggest me?

c) Why this feeling?

d) What colour(s) dominate this painting?

e) What kind of paints have been used? (watercolours, oil paint, pencil, ink and colour,

tempera paint, gouache paint, etc.) On what kind of support? (canvas, wood, paper,

etc.)

f) Where are the composition lines of the painting? What are they like?

g) How is the image organized?

h) What’s the role of the light in the painting?

i) What’s in the foreground?

j) What’s in the background?

k) What time of the year does it represent?

l) Is there a relationship between the title and the painting? Which?

m) If you could choose a musical composition or a song which could match this painting,

n) What can I feel when I look at this painting?

o) What reactions does this painting provoke on me?

p) Which memories does it bring to me?

4. Write a story inspired on this painting which either begins on this painting or ends on this

painting (100-150 words minimum)
