Membership & Benefits

Our Fall 2023  Membership Period is open until 12 noon Friday, November 17, 2023 All current WVUP students meeting eligibility requirements will receive a formal invitation.   Questions?  Email Marie Butler at mbutler1@wvup.edu. 

Membership to Phi Theta Kappa is by invitation only!

In order to be eligible for membership in the Sigma Omega chapter, a student must:

have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, be a current student at WVUP (not a transient student) and:

* Adhere to the WVUP Honor Code and possess recognized qualities of citizenship

* If working toward a Certificate (1 year) degree, must have completed a minimum of 6 credit hours

* If working toward an Associate (2 year) degree, must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours

* If working toward a Bachelors degree, must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours

* If an Early College student, must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of college work

Some of the benefits of being a Phi Theta Kappa member include: 

Once a student accepts membership, they become a member for life. All members must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 while a student at WVU Parkersburg, or said member will be placed on a one semester probationary status.  If the maintenance GPA is not raised to a 3.25 during the probationary status, membership to PTK will be revoked.  Upon graduation of a member's declared degree, said member moves to alumni status.
