Wells High School Mission Statement
"Our mission is to empower all students through individualized instruction to become literate critical thinkers and problem solvers committed to civic engagement."
Information about Me:
This is my 37th year teaching here at WHS. I live in the town of Wells with my wife. My two sons graduated from WHS. I earned my bachelor's degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle and my masters from Lesley College. I graduated from Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) located in Guilford, Maine in 1982. I enjoy teaching and working at WHS. I enjoy sports (mostly watching them), working around the house, playing card games, reading, watching movies, and spending time with my family.
Students need to bring to school everyday:
Their Internet Device! Quite often in school students will be asked to access the internet. Students can use their own laptop (preferred) or a school laptop which can be provided.
Something with which to write; preferably a pencil but pens are acceptable.
A Notebook - 1-inch, 3-ring binder. I distribute many Lessons as handouts as we do not have a book. The notebook will be used to keep the handouts on which students will be doing work and taking notes. Returned papers are also expected to be kept in the notebook - not stuffed in a backpack.
Graphing Calculator – Texas Instruments: TI-84 Plus (To be used in Math and Science all four years at WHS) Math teachers suggest the purchase of a TI-84 Plus as it is efficient in its graphing capabilities and compatible with standardized tests. Some lessons in the text are designed around the use of graphing calculators. I will be able to help students learn the functionality of their TI-84 graphing calculators as I am familiar with them. I am not familiar with other models and brands and therefore will be less likely to be able to help students with different calculators. For students that are unable to get a calculator, WHS will have one that can be borrowed for the year. Calculators should be brought every day. PHONES will not be allowed to be used as a calculator.
I'll be using Jupiter Grades to record and report student progress and assessment. I also use Jupiter Grades to post lesson handouts and their answer keys! Students and Parents should use the Jupiter Grade features to keep track of grades, assignments, and lesson handouts. Check Jupiter Grades for current and past assignments. I will be using Google Classroom to communicate with my students if we have to Learn Remotely! I will also use Google Classrooms to post a few online assignments and links to websites we will frequent. I will also be using Delta Math, Khan Academy, and a couple of other websites for homework assignments. I will be using Zoom If we have to go remote. I will have a link to my Zoom Class Meetings in Jupiter Ed and Google Classroom if we go remote. I will not be zooming unless the school has been closed for Remote Learning and therefore Attendance is important! Students WILL NOT be able to Zoom in when absent!
I am available after school most days except Early Release Wednesdays. Please let me know at school if you want to stay with me that day after school to get extra help.
