WSS Hodag Hunt 

Each year in the fall, the Wisconsin Speleological Society sponsors a three day festival called a Hodag Hunt for all cavers and outdoor adventurists in Wisconsin and the surrounding states. A Hodag is a mythical creature found in caves, and possesses five legs and three eyes. A replica of a Hodag is placed in one of the caves in the area and whoever finds it receives a valuable prize. The three-day festival features camping, cave trips, science related trips, nature hikes, informal slide shows, yard games, Saturday night grill out, featured speaker, and numerous opportunities to socialize with friends, both new and old. The Hodag Hunt Festival is fun for all ages! 

   2024 60th Annual WSS Hodag Hunt is August 9, 10, 11 

at Prairie Island Campground located on the Mississippi River 

   by Winona ,Minnesota.  

• The WSS has campsites 166-169 reserved for tent camping only from 8/9-8/11 at Prairie Island Campground, 1120 Prairie Island Rd, Winona, MN. 

• Anyone that wants to bring an RV or campers will have to reserve a site on their own, call 507-452-4501 or email info@prairieislandcampground.com for more information.

• People can start showing up Friday afternoon at 1pm and stay through to Sunday 5pm.

• Guided cave trips to  Hiawatha Caverns by WSS members Kasey Fiske & Dave Gerboth Saturday 10am-4pm & Niagara Cave on Saturday or Sunday on your own between 11am-4pm.

• WSS cave related souvenirs for sale.

•  A meal Saturday night  at 5:30pm will take place, followed by WSS auction at Winona Pizza Ranch

• Hodag will be hidden in a cave for a prize.
