Our first day will be organized as follows.
Welcome and Introduction (approx time - 15 mins)
Introductions all around.
Introductory Lecture and Discussion (approx time - 45 mins)
Chapter 1 of Loss Data Analytics
Introduction to R (approx time - 3 hrs)
We will use this time to help people get R installed on their machines (if needed). Then, participants will go through the online learning platform,
Introduction to R using Datacamp.
You can just give them an email address and a password to sign up for free. We will also need this account for our session on the third day. Even if you know R, you will find this learning method interesting.
Case Study: Property Fund (approx time - 1 hr)
I will review key ideas from this data set, described in Section 1.3 of Loss Data Analytics. Then, participants will have opportunities to practice R code/data analysis by following the Loss Data Analytics companion site, Loss Data Analytics with R.
Frequency Models (approx time - 2 hrs)
I will lecture on this subject (about 45 minutes). Then you will have an opportunity to further familiarize yourself with the R code/data analysis.
This segment reinforces the introduction that you received in your Probability and Statistics 1 course.

Modeling Loss Severity (approx time - 2 hrs)
I will lecture on this subject (about 45 minutes). Then you will have an opportunity to further familiarize yourself with the R code/data analysis. (Note: we will only cover this topic if the Introduction to R segment runs very short.)
