If you are considering a career in Art and want to apply to a competitive accredited art school, we recommend the following course sequence at WHS in order to meet portfolio requirements for most major university programs. These Grade 11 & 12 classes also prepare students by requiring digital portfolios of their work at the end of each semester. Additionally, This course sequence puts students in a position to earn 6 college credits while still at WHS.
Grade 9:
Art Foundations & Drawing 1
Grade 10:
Drawing 2 & Painting
**Begin attending College Visit Presentations from the Art Schools the department brings in.
Grade 11:
Drawing 3 & Pre-AP Art
**In November, attend National Portfolio Day to get feedback from Colleges on your portfolio.
**Continue attending Art & Design School Presentations and begin to narrow your search. Some schools require additional "homework" for your portfolio that we can start working on now. Talk to your Art Teacher!
Grade 12:
AP Studio Art
**Complete any additional portfolio "homework" by November 1st and attend National Portfolio Day to meet with colleges on the top of your list.
**Complete the common application and schedule a time with your Art Teacher to set up your digital portfolio account in SlideRoom.
Can't make this path work in your class schedule? Come talk to your art teachers about what we can make work!
