Art Students take College Tour

In addition to the various art schools that come in to present to the students in the art department each fall, this year students were able to travel to Maine College of Art to tour its impressive facilities and speak directly to their students. On October 26th, WHS Art students witnessed first hand how professional programs in the field of art and design employ industry standard equipment and even set up classrooms to simulate working environments like design and marketing firms in order to prepare their students. Colleges such as MECA work with the community to have their students solving real-world design problems in order to focus on developing paths for working professionals in the creative sector. WHS Students then were able to visit the Institute of Contemporary Art in order to analyze and discuss artwork and enjoy a beautiful day in downtown Portland as they made their way to professional galleries in the city. At Portland Art Gallery, students were able to speak with a gallery assistant about the art market, pricing and selling major works of art. This trip was made possible in part by the generous donation of community members and all those who support our Art Department Fundraising.
