About

Hello!  My name is Mrs. Dawn Kirkwood.  As some of you may have already heard, I have been given the amazing opportunity to become one of the third grade teachers, that your child will have this school year.  I will be teaching your awesome young children Math and Science.  This will be my third year as a third grade math teacher and  second as a third grade science teacher. For the first seven years of my teaching career, I taught fifth grade math.  I am excited to begin this new journey with your children.

I look forward to helping your child as they learn the material. I hope to learn from your child, as they learn from me.  I also hope to be there to support and help them in any way I possibly can.  Being a teacher is more than just teaching the material.  It is being there to support and help your students.

Just to tell you a little bit about myself.  I am forty-five years old.  I just celebrated my 25th wedding anniversay and my husband and I have three sons.  I have a set of twenty-threeyear old twin boys.  My son William graduated college from IUP and has moved to Arizona to work in his field.  My son Jason attends UPJ majoring in Mechanical Engineering.  My third son is sixteen years old, in eleventh grade and is very active. Just like your child, my youngest also attends the Windber School district.  He loves esports, baseball, and basketball.  I also have two dogs, Bosha and  Bailey.

I received my teaching degree from the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown in May of 2012 and in July of 2016 received my Masters of Education (Special Education) from Concordia University.  Prior to obtaining my degree, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be a stay at home mother.

I know how important your children are to you and how important home and school communication can be, so please feel free to contact me at any time.  I can be reached at dkirkwood@windberschools.org or through the elementary school office at 814-467-5596 (extension 133).
