Texts: Holt Geometry c2007
Blitzer Algebra and Trigonometry c2010
Course Description
Math109 investigates the logical nature of mathematical systems by exploring two and three-dimensional Euclidean Geometry and provides additional exploration of Algebra II and Trigonometry topics.
This course will provide an in-depth study of the following geometric concepts and skills: inductive and deductive reasoning, angle relationships, transformations, congruent shapes, similar polygons, triangles, parallel and perpendicular lines, Pythagorean Theorem, right triangle trigonometry, circles, and solids.
Algebraic/Trigonometry concepts will include factoring, solving and graphing polynomial, rational, exponential, and trigonometric functions, the unit circle, solving systems of equations, and other topics. Students will analyze and predict transformations of various graphs.
Various types of proofs will be utilized. Students will enhance their problem-solving, communication and reasoning skills as well as develop a clear understanding of the connection between Geometry, Algebra and real world applications.
