It is my hope that your child will have a joyful, exploratory, knowledge, confidence, and skill-building experience during thier time in Elementary Art.
This experience is promoted by fostering a positive classroom environment where classmates learn to support each other's work and are encouraged to try new things, while expressing themselves through their artwork.
In the Romona Art Studio, students explore a variety of different types of art making experiences from clay, tempera paint, and collage, to watercolor, Sharpie marker, and pastel. Students are encouraged to take responsible risks, be creative, generate original ideas, sometimes research, and always to incorporate their own unique style into each project. Our curriculum structures learning about art through a variety of cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts. Students are provided with opportunities to reflect on their work and the work of others in meaningful ways which foster self-awareness and collaboration.
It is my hope that each student will leave their years at Romona with a cultivated curiosity about the visual world, a desire to continue making and creating, and an increased confidence in their abilities.
In the Romona Art Studio there is no such thing as a student who "can't". In the words of artist Keith Haring, "art is for everyone"!
