Student Art Portfolios:
As students complete projects in the Romona Art Studio, work will be safely stored in their personal Art Portfolio. Portfolios are used to help students and Mrs. Stevenson monitor progress, evaluate, and reflect on work. Student work is sent home in portfolios at our May Open House. Smaller projects, sculpture, seasonal work, sketches, or "free choice" projects may be sent home throughout the school year.
Welcome Back!
I'm excited to greet all of my new and returning artists this year back in the Romona Art Studio! I'm so looking forward to catching up on our summer adventures and learning, imagining, and creating together!
Looking for ways to help your child build find motor skills or nurture their creative spark? Here are some easy ideas:
• Buy art supplies that inspire your child (Blick supplies and Michael's craft stores are great sources for inspiration--you don't need to spend a lot!).
• Encourage your child to keep a sketch book or photo journal and draw on trips, when they have down time, or anytime!
• Provide time for your child time to play, explore, and build with diverse materials: play dough, soapy water, sand, LEGOS, puzzles, beads, watercolors, chalk, jewelry making, weaving etc. These experiments don't just support growth in art but also the sciences!
• Feed your child's imagination! Read or tell stories, encourage imaginative play, travel, explore a new park or part of town. Building on ideas, experiences, and imagery in your child's memory is a great way to build current and future creativity!
• Take your child to see art in the community and encourage them to build opinions by asking "which painting was your favorite?", "what did you like about it?", or "how do you think it was made?"
• Sign up for a community art center class
