Williamstown has become the first Berkshire County community to enroll "official" Dementia friends following a session with Alzheimers Partnership coordinators Karen Gold and Jackie Tripico on Friday April 20th. Twenty two people were present for the activity which is a presentation on dementia, its impact on people and communities and how to respond to individuals with dementia.. Dementia Friends are individuals who have committed to making a difference in their community and in the lives of people with dementia through understanding what it means to have dementia, being supportive, compassionate and knowing that even small actions count. It is not, however, a friending activity-one does not need to seek individuals with dementia to befriend. Dementia friends is a growing movement in the United States.
