Water quality testing

The Water Department has tested our three water source wells for the presence of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) which has been found to be a concern in Hoosick Falls, North Bennington and Pownal. Since we are upstream from these locations, we would not expect to find the contamination here. For reference, there is not yet a standard for PFOA in water. EPA uses guidance of 400 parts per trillion; New Hampshire has used 100 parts per trillion and Vermont is using 20 parts per trillion. We have received lab testing results that show a presence of less than 2 parts per trillion. This is such a low level that it cannot be detected by current testing technology.
