All,
Here comes the end of another month. This one is contaminated by ghosts and goblins and noises in the night, but the month ends regardless. “Send the November calendars out!” Joyce demanded. She claims that the members who bring dishes and desserts to the Monday potluck have to know what the main course is to match the needs to the knowns. That is pretty smart. I wouldn’t have thought of it! The calendar is attached.
“…..and print a bunch of them to hand out on Monday for the members who don’t get your email.” She urged. Well, that takes care of my Saturday, I guess.
I got a call from Lisa Norton, the director of AAA, ASCOG, the state agency that supplements our monthly food budget. Lisa will be visiting the center on Monday afternoon. This is the first opportunity she has had to visit us since we moved into the Stoney Point Center on November 1, last year. We are looking forward to showing her our operation, discuss the way we are satisfying our senior support mission, and give her renewed insight into our records keeping and administration. I told her that Chery-Ann will be leading our cardio-vascular and muscular/balance exercises at 2:15 on Monday (27th) afternoon….. the cardio-drumming session shown on the calendar. I think she would get a kick out of picking up the drum sticks and beating that big round ball.
Speaking of it being a year since we moved into the Stoney Point Center and the commencement of building a long-dreamed-of new Senior Citizens Center, we do intend to have a little anniversary celebration on Monday, November 3. While we are not preparing for a big crowd on that day, we do hope that members come by for cake, popcorn, and participation in our normal Monday activities. I am thinking of you old-time members….. who heard the long-ago harbingers of the future --- if only we had a building --- those who have yet to see how things are turning out. So, from 1 pm to around 8:30 on the 3d, cake, coffee, popcorn, table games, the 5 pm meal, shooting a game of pool, working in the crafts room, reading in the library, discussing where the center is going and where it has come from. Come join us.
Comments we keep hearing from people who show up at the center door for the first time, “I didn’t know you were here!” “This is a great place, why don’t you get the word out?” “You’ve been here for a year? Who knew?” So we are going to try to be more active letting people know about the activities that Senior Citizens can participate in by being here. We would like to also ask that you be the spokesperson for the center, encouraging participation, volunteering, and leadership by those who might like the things happening out here.
That is about enough for this sitting. As always, just respond “Stop” to this note if you want me to take your address off of our list. But we do encourage all to come, bring to us your ideas, suggestions, and comments.
