Transfer Credit Policy

While the Psychology Department welcomes credit for certain courses taken at other institutions, there are some limitations to make note of.

  • No more than 6 hours of credit taken at other schools or in other Wake Forest departments may be counted toward the major (including AP Psychology credit and credit transferred from non-WFU study abroad programs).
  • Courses taken at community colleges or college courses taught on high school campuses are not accepted for transfer credit. However, community college courses taught on the school’s campus before entering Wake Forest University will be considered for transfer credit.
  • With the exception of PSY 151, only elective psychology coursework may be transferred into the major. Research Methods I and II, the Group A and B coursework, and the capstone requirement (Psych 392) must all be taken at Wake Forest University. While it may be possible to take versions of these courses at other institutions, they can only count as elective credit towards the major at WFU.

** The guidelines regarding transfer and credit approval may be modified in rare and special circumstances upon consultation with the Director of Undergraduate studies and at the discretion of the Chair of the Psychology Department.**
