WFSD Fine Arts Department Hosts Annual K-12 Districtwide Art Show
The William Floyd School District Fine Arts Department recently hosted their annual Districtwide Art Show in the south lobby of William Floyd High School! The event, which coincides with the beginning of March and the celebration of Youth Art & Music Month, featured gorgeous displays of artwork from William Floyd students across all grade levels. Families and community members were welcomed by the Fine Arts Department to come explore the gallery and celebrate the talented student-artists whose work was on display. Members of the National Art Honor Society hosted the event and helped serve refreshments while also running several craft activities and a face painting station for the younger children in attendance.
Three WFHS Art Students Have Work Chosen for NYSSBA Art Exhibit
Three William Floyd High School art students, Keira Amaris, Jupiter Barnett and Kate Samlihan, recently had their artwork chosen for the New York State School Boards Association art exhibit! This annual art exhibit, hosted by the New York State Teachers Association (NYSATA), is a prestigious virtual art show that highlights artwork from elementary and secondary schools across the state.
WFSD Art Department Faculty Exhibit
The William Floyd Art Department hosted a faculty exhibit at the Susan Hersh Art Gallery in the main lobby of William Floyd High School throughout the month of October. The exhibit features the personal work of many of the district’s wonderful art teachers created in various mediums on subjects that are meaningful to them.

WFHS Student-Artists Featured in Year of the Dragon Art Show
Five talented William Floyd High School student-artists from Ms. Tina Higgins’s and Mrs. Theresa Bianco’s classes recently had their artwork chosen for display in the 2024 Year of the Dragon Art Exhibit at Brookhaven Town Hall in celebration of the Lunar New Year! Additionally, two of these student-artists, Lily Gomez and Gabriela Galan, earned first and second place for their efforts!
Student Writing & Artwork Featured in Martin Luther King Jr. NYSED Project
William Floyd students recently participated in the New York State Education Department’s 2023 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Student Art & Essay Exhibition, in which students statewide had the opportunity to submit original artwork and essays reflecting Dr. King’s six principles of nonviolence.
WFSD Art Department Hosts In-District Art Portfolio Day
The William Floyd Art Department recently hosted an in-district “Portfolio Adjudication” with more than 65 students from grades two through 12 participating in this exciting event. Students had the opportunity to present several pieces of their artwork for evaluation by the district’s art teachers who served as the judges. Students were tasked with articulating their artistic process and presenting their work in a professional portfolio. More than 50 students received the highest rating of “Distinguished with Mastery” for their efforts.

Student Artwork Takes Center Stage During Unity Week
The William Floyd School District recently held its 10th annual “Unity Week,” a district-wide celebration designed to promote peace, unity, diversity, tolerance, understanding and acceptance of differences throughout our schools and in students’ daily lives.
William Floyd Student Artists Making their Marks Across Long Island
Recently, more than 90 students earned “Distinguished” portfolio ratings, the highest available, at the annual New York State Art Teachers Association Portfolio Project Adjudication.
