Library Lessons
Fifth grade is an exciting time for readers. There are so many great books and authors out there right now! We will be exploring different genres this year in class and in the library.
We will also be working a lot on our information literacy. We will be talking about finding, using and evaluating all different sources of information.
Evaluating information sources is a very important skill that in our world today. Information is coming at us from so many directions.
We will also be evaluating and questioning printed resources. We will examine point of view, and purpose as well as voices that are typically heard in our history and those that are not as well as other ways that we can fill in some of the information in our history that is missing.
Throughout our exploration and evaluation, students will sometimes be doing google searches in order to do website and information comparisons. I realize google can sometimes lead students to places that we don't necessarily want them to be, however I think it is important for students to learn to use the tools they would normally use outside of school, responsibly, ethically and with critical evaluation. I am in constant movement when students are on the internet and we are constantly having conversations about appropriate use. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
