Food Policy

Snacks and Birthdays

We will have a snack time everyday around mid-morning. Due to the number of students with medical issues and life-threatening food allergies in our school, snack time in the classrooms must be safe for everyone. We are asking that parents refrain from sending snacks that contain peanut or tree nut (cashews, pecans, almonds, walnuts, etc.) products.

In accordance with our health and wellness policy, student birthdays are celebrated without using food as a treat. If the student chooses, the following suggestions are ways to celebrate:

  • Donate a book to the class. Choose your own title, or ask Miss Chen about 3C’s Reading Room Wish List.
  • Donate a birthday book to the Deerfield Library.
  • Bring in a T-shirt or hat that everyone can sign.
  • Pass out pencils/bookmarks to share with the class.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our schools a healthy environment!
