The Physical Fitness Test (PFT) for students (5th, 7th and 9th Grade) in California schools is the FITNESSGRAM. The evaluation starts at the end of Trimester 2 beginning of Trimester 3. The main objective of the test is to help students acquire and maintain life-long habits of regular physical activity to guard against diseases that come from inactivity. The FITNESSGRAM is a six-part test designed to measure students fitness level on the Components of Fitness. There are several options for most areas:
Aerobic Capacity
PACER (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run)
One-Mile Run
Walk Test (only for ages 13 or older)
Abdominal Strength and Endurance
Curl-Up
Upper Body Strength and Endurance
Push-Up
Modified Pull-Up
Flexed-Arm Hang
Trunk Extensor Strength and Flexibility
Trunk Lift
Flexibility
Back-Saver Sit and Reach
Shoulder Stretch
