Classroom Norms and Rules

Class Norms

1. Be respectful- Be respectful of others’ ideas and thoughts that they share. No idea is bad or wrong, all thoughts and ideas shared can be pondered, explored, furthered, challenged, and discussed which leads to our best learning.

2. Be responsible- Be responsible for your learning and the learning of others. You will show responsibility by participating in discussions, taking time to think deeply about a topic we are learning about and not rushing through work, and by taking an active role in class. To show responsibility, you will not only have to complete the work but will have to share your thought process going into the work you’ve done and be ready to share that with the class.

3. Be safe-All ideas and all mistakes are safe. It’s safe to not know something, it’s safe to make a mistake, it’s safe to lean on others for help, and it’s safe to question, ponder, and ask.

4. Stay positive. If you can’t do something, we say, “I can’t do this YET.”

5. I believe in you. Each and every student is capable and can and will learn.

6. Value the process. It’s not just about getting a right answer. It’s about how you got there and the steps made along the way, the learning that went on, and the mistakes that lead to new learning.
