Expectations
- Work Ethic: I believe in trial and error, and in learning from your mistakes, but most importantly, I believe in trying. You cannot succeed if you don't at least give something a try. So be present in class, pay attention, put in your best effort every day and be willing to try.
- Academic Integrity: You need to be honest with your work; no cheating, copying, using AI without specific direction or guidance, or plagiarizing is allowed.
- Respect: Treat all the people including peers, teachers, administrators, guidance, cafeteria staff, janitors, and visitors with respect. Treat other people’s belongings, school supplies, and the classroom with respect.
Grading
- Point System: All activities will be graded on a point system. If the activity is more involved or more rigorous, it will be worth more points. A student's grade will be calculated by dividing the total number of points they earned by the total number of points they could have earned, and that percentage will be assigned a letter grade for progress reports and report cards.
- State Standards: While all points are equal, tasks will be aligned to the state standards to show not only that the curriculum aligns with the standards, but also to help identify if there are certain standards a student might find to be a strength or an area for growth. For example if a student consistently loses points on tasks that involve the use of timelines, then the student will know they need to practice timeline skills, or if a student consistently earns top points in tasks that involve historical research practices, they will know they have strong research skills.
- Rubrics: Rubrics and/or checklists will be provided for all tasks. Most tasks will be assessed on a 10 point scale. If a student does not earn the full 10 points there will usually be an explanation through commentary or on the assignment or rubric to explain the loss of points. The 10 point scale is as follows:
SCORING: Excellent Capable Making Progress Needs Improvement
