I came to Wellesley High School in September 2015 from St. John's Preparatory School in Danvers, MA, where I taught all boys for 15 years, moderated the school literary magazine, and choreographed the fall musicals, including Oklahoma! and Crazy for You. (Teaching 23 teenage guys how to tap dance in two months is one of my fondest memories.) I have spent the majority of my life in school, both as a teacher and as a student. Earning master's degrees in Education and Literature weren't enough for me...I had to return to study Creative Writing, a driving passion of mine. In the spring of 2015, I graduated with an MFA from Emerson College. Freelance work, including editing other writers' manuscripts and website copy, keeps me busy in between my commitments to family and teaching. I have also published some short fiction and prose poetry in literary magazines. This upcoming year, I will be striving to complete a full first draft of a novel.
I live on the north shore with my husband, Andrew, 13-year-old daughter Madeline, and 11-year-old son, Drew. Madeline likes playing field hockey and lacrosse, as well as baking. Drew is obsessed with football, baseball, and his Xbox. A beabull (1/2 beagle and 1/2 English bulldog) named Pearl completes our family. She barks hysterically at black trash bags and laundry hampers and loves to chew flip-flops.
My favorite authors are Flannery O'Connor, Joyce Carol Oates, Willa Cather, and Donna Tartt, and I fiercely wish that I, instead of Richard Yates, had written Revolutionary Road. Some of my favorite things are sleep, linguine carbonara, the dry, sweet scent of a new book's pages, Disney, and watching A Christmas Story in front of a fire on a frigid December evening. I don't like mushrooms or country music.
I am looking forward to hearing about your favorite things, too...plus your pet peeves and most avid dreams.
