Reading:

Our in depth author study continues. Students are focusing on recognizing various types of figurative language in the novels they are reading. Further, students are honing in on what it is they enjoy about their chosen author and making wonderful connections to the style of writing and use of figurative language by individual authors. To wrap up this project, students are creating an advertisement to convince their audience that their author is the BEST one of all. Students are developing a presentation of their informed opinion for our AIG class.

Project directions and expectations are posted in our Google Classroom.

We have begun our in depth author study in a PBL format. PBLs are Problem Based Learning projects. Students will be examining and evaluating specific author writing styles, comparing them to each other and to their own style of writing and book genre preferences. We will also, integrate the use of various types of figurative language found in novels and how this type of language can enhance a story. In class, we are referring to this PBL as a quest with the title, 'My Kind of Author' and 'Author Said What?'. Our project expands the NCSS RL.4.1 and RL.4.2 (identifying themes and how characters are developed through actions, words and thoughts).
